Avocados are packed with goodness - healthy fats, fibre, potassium, and the list goes on! Learn how to cut, chop, slice and dice avocados like a pro.

Cut around the stone

Make a lengthways cut right down the centre of the fruit until your knife makes contact with the big, hard stone. Rotate the avocado to cut all the way around the stone.
Cut around the stone

Cup your hands around the avocado and gently twist each half in opposite directions to separate them.
Remove the stone

Hold the stone half of the avocado (with a towel in your hand) stone-side up. Tap the stone firmly with the knife blade to pierce it. Then twist the knife gently and pop the stone free.
More tips

Ready to dice? You can dice an avocado while still in the skin. Use a table knife to make lengthways cuts through the flesh taking care not to cut through the skin. Next, cut crossways strips. Use a spoon to scoop out the diced avocado.

If you want to try another method: Use a spoon to gently scoop out the entire half and then slice the avocado on a cutting board. To make a small dice, just cut across the slices.

Prevent browning this way: Sprinkle cut avocado with lemon or lime juice to prevent it from turning brown. Avocado flesh darkens quickly when exposed to air. For mashed avocado or guacamole, cover the bowl with cling film and then press the film right down on to avocado. No air, no discoloration!
