Black turtle beans, or simply 'black beans' for short, are especially common in Latin American cuisine. High in fibre and packed with nutrients, they're a healthy addition to any dish. If you can't find tinned black beans, use dried.

This is the best recipe I've found on this site!!! I am orginally Syrian, so we are always making traditional houmous and when I decided to make this, my family was really skeptical. Everything changed when they tasted it and my mom single-handedly ate almost the whole recipe!! (this tastes more flavourful if you double the amount of the spices) - 24 Jul 2008

A good way to use up extra black beans, though I thought it could do with a bit more spice (will probably add more paprika and cumin next time). - 16 Jul 2012

I thought this was bland and lacking flavour. - 04 Oct 2011
