Bread machine sugar-free brown bread

    Wholesome brown bread with no added sugar, low salt and low fat too! This brown bread is great for sandwiches.

    Serves: 15 

    • 7g (1/4 oz) dried active baking yeast
    • 225ml (8 fl oz) skimmed milk, lukewarm
    • 2 tablespoons warm water (45 C)
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 250g (9 oz) plain flour
    • 150g (5 oz) wholemeal flour
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil

    1. Place ingredients in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select lightest setting; press Start.

    This is described as a wholemeal loaf, but it calls for 150g wholemeal flour and 250g "plain" flour. Assuming that "plain" means white, that means it's a brown loaf. It may be the most delicious bread in the world, but it isn't wholemeal. I'm looking for wholemeal bread recipes, not white bread recipes with a token spot of wholemeal flour thrown in.  -  19 Aug 2011


    Used different ingredients. I made this recipe a little easier today with the following ingredients: 7g Sachet of fast acting yeast :: 250ml warm water :: 2 tablespoons of skimmed milk powder :: 1/2 teaspoon lo-salt :: 250g Plain Four :: 150g Whole meal strong flour :: 1 tablespoon of Olive Oil. Throw it all on the bread maker on a program for basic white bread, 1.5 lb. Set to lightest brown. Press start. Worked really well.  -  26 Dec 2010


    Something else. I made the dough in my machine and this time before it started to bake turned the dough out and divided it up into 9 small but nice balls, covered it with a damp cloth in a warm room after about 10 minutes they had risen. put in oven gas mark 3 and leave to cook slowly for about 35 min or until golden brown I turned them over for the last five minutes to brown the bottom. Once again great receipe they were a nice size very soft and the usual good taste.  -  24 Jul 2010
