This is an impressive but easy to make starter that will have guests wishing the main course might never come. Just four simple ingredients combine to make this winning dish, which is best with spring asparagus.

2 sheets filo pastry, thawed, sliced in half lengthways
4 tablespoons melted butter
4 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
8 spears fresh asparagus, trimmed

Preheat an oven to 190 C / Gas 5.
Lightly brush 1 sheet of filo with butter and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Roll 2 asparagus spears up with the prepared filo and place seam-side down on a baking tray. Repeat until all the asparagus spears are rolled. Brush each roll with butter and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
Bake in the preheated oven until the filo is golden brown and crispy, 15 to 18 minutes.
