This bread machine recipe is based on the classic recipe for Butterzopf, or Butter Bread, from Switzerland. Though not plaited like the original, it still tastes gorgeous with butter and jam. This recipe needs real butter - not margarine or a blend.
Absolutely loved this loaf, and has now become a favourite. Beautiful taste, and it was very crusty which made it even better. As for the other review I did have to use 100g of bread flour and 400g plain flour as didn't quite have enough plain. Wether this made a difference to the rising I don't know, but I was very impressed with how this came out! - 16 Sep 2014
Unfortunately I followed this recipe to the letter, it overflowed the pan and filled my kitchen with acrid smoke and burnt onto the heating element of my machine. A shame, because this sounds like it should be a good recipe. - 23 Feb 2014
