About this recipe:Instead of buying tinned tomatoes, preserve your own when tomatoes are abundant and in season. You can follow this recipe as is for chilli tomatoes, or omit the chilli for regular chopped tomatoes.
3kg fresh tomatoes
250g green chillies
2 teaspoons salt

Seed the tomatoes and chop. Place in 4 litre saucepan.
Slice the chillies into 1cm wide circles place with the tomatoes in saucepan. Add salt. Add the water and place on medium heat for about 15 minutes until it reduces to about a 1.5 litres.
Pour into sterilised preserving jars and store in a cool, dark place.
