    About this recipe: The variations possible with this basic cookie recipe are limited only by your imagination. I have included some variation suggestions for this recipe - including freezing instructions in the footnotes. These are fab to make with kids - each person can add their own ingredients and say 'Look, I made it!'.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 20 

    • 200g sugar
    • 500g margarine or butter
    • 1 (397g) tin condensed sweetened milk
    • 625g plain flour
    • 5 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 pinch of salt

    Method
    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:30min 

    1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
    2. First, cream the sugar and margarine or butter.
    3. Then, add condensed milk, flour and baking powder. Mix to combine.
    4. At this point you have the option to add variety to your cookies. I like to split the dough into 3 or 4 different bowls and add different things to each bowl - see footnote.
    5. Once the dough is ready, roll into teaspoon-sized balls and press down with a fork. Place on greased trays and bake in the preheated oven until golden brown for approximately 10-15 minutes.

    Variations...

    You can make a variety of additions to your cookies: Chocolate chips; cocoa and chopped nuts; desiccated coconut; cinnamon; dried fruit. The possibilities are endless - feel free to experiment!

    Freezer friendly...

    After adding the different ingredients, I often freeze some of the dough in a long roll with greaseproof paper around it, until I want to bake them. The dough is fine in the freezer for about a month. When I feel like cookies I just take the dough out of the freezer, leave it on the counter for 10 to 15 minutes, slice into cookie size pieces and bake!

    I love this recipe and it has quickly became a household favouriteWith half the dough i freeze and the other half make biscuits for our lunches for a week. Then pull out the other frozen half and theres our biscuits for another week! Just have to add what i want. Time saving, Money saving, Tasty, and Easy!!
