Drunken Cabbage

    A delicious cabbage side dish, which goes well with roasted meats. Red and green cabbage are braised together in a seasoned Guiness sauce.

    Serves: 4 

    • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
    • 1 onion, diced
    • 1 (2cm) piece root ginger, grated
    • 250g red cabbage, finely chopped
    • 250 green cabbage, finely chopped
    • 225ml Guinness
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

    1. Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Place the onion and ginger in the frying pan and cook until tender.
    2. Mix in red and green cabbage and cook for about 2 minutes. Pour in the Guinness. Season with salt and pepper.
    3. Reduce heat to medium, cover frying pan and cook for 5 more minutes or until cabbage is tender.
