About this recipe: Also known as nasi uduk. It's a steamed rice dish, where rice is cooked in a salam leaf and lemongrass infused coconut milk.


Makes: 3 - 4

  • 500g rice, rinsed and drained
  • 850ml coconut milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 salam leaves
  • 1 stick lemongrass

Prep:5min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:35min 

  1. Steam rice until half-cooked.
  2. Put coconut milk, salt, salam leaves and lemongrass into a saucepan, bring to the boil.
  3. Add half-cooked rice into coconut milk mixture. Cook until the coconut milk has been absorbed.
  4. Place rice back into a steamed and steam until fully cooked.

Salam leaves

If you can't find salam leaves, substitute with curry leaves or bay leaves.
