About this recipe: These buttery biscuits are not sweet, but savoury. They are flavoured with ground cumin and cinnamon. Enjoy as party nibbles or alongside soups, stews or casseroles.


Serves: 6 

  • 1 egg
  • 4 tablespoons plain yoghurt
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 200g unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 450g plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg yolk, beaten for glaze

  1. Preheat oven to 200 C / Gas 6.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together 1 egg, plain yoghurt, vegetable oil, butter, cinnamon, cumin and salt.
  3. Add flour and baking powder. Mix well until a dough is formed. Rest for 10 minutes.
  4. Divide the dough into small balls (about 1 tablespoon each). Place onto a baking tray and brush with egg yolk.
  5. Bake in preheated oven for 20-30 minutes.
