Sweet Baked Pumpkin

    35 min

A sugar pumpkin is baked with dark brown soft sugar, butter and cinnamon until deliciously soft. The resulting pumpkin is so sweet and soft, you could probably serve them for dessert! Otherwise, serve as a side dish with any meal.

    Serves: 1

    • 1 small sugar pumpkin
    • 1 teaspoon dark brown soft sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon butter
    • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

    1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
    2. Cut off the top of the pumpkin and scrape out all the seeds. Place the butter and dark brown soft sugar inside the pumpkin and sprinkle with ground cinnamon. Put the pumpkin lid back on and place pumpkin in a baking dish with a little water in the bottom.
    3. Bake at 180 C / Gas 4 for about 30 minutes or until tender. These can also be baked in the microwave on high for about 10 to 15 minutes.

Sugar pumpkins are smaller versions of the big orange pumpkins you find during Halloween. They are sweeter and have more flavour. Do not substitute in larger versions, these are essentially grown to be made into Jack-o-lanterns.

These were SO GOOD and my guests loved them. I didn't quite know what to expect but they were delicious and the look on everyone's face when I came out with a pumpkin on a plate was priceless. It is a really nice fall recipe.  -  13 Oct 2002  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)

This is an easy, beautiful way to serve sugar pumpkins! However, I would add more sugar, and salt for flavor-- otherwise the pumpkin can be a bit bland. Also, cook time needs to be at least 45 minutes, or the flesh is too crunchy. I will definitely serve these at Thanksgiving insetad of our traditional butternut squash!  -  18 Oct 2003  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)

Mine were a undercooked so next time I'll leave them in the oven longer. It wasn't very flavorful so we cooked some cinnimon apples and put them inside the pumpkin, it was so much better!  -  14 Oct 2003  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)
