2 onions, chopped

450g (1 lb) passata
450ml (16 fl oz) water
2 (200g) tins petits pois, with liquid
1 (500g) pack macaroni
50g (2 oz) grated Cheddar cheese

Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat; sauté onion for about 5 minutes. Add salt, pepper, passata and water; bring mixture to a boil and add peas; reduce heat and simmer for about 30 minutes.
Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain.
Stir cooked pasta and cheese into tomato mixture. Cover pan and turn off heat; let stand for 10 minutes.
Use a tomato pasta sauce instead of the passata if you prefer.
