    About this recipe: A thick, delicious and winter warming soup. Stewing steak is cooked in a slow cooker with passata and pearl barley. Serve with grated cheese and a crusty bread roll.

    Serves: 6 

    • 900g diced beef stewing steak
    • 1.2 litres water
    • 2 small beef stock cubes, crumbled
    • 1/2 onion, chopped
    • 225g passata
    • 150g pearl barley
    • salt and pepper to taste

    Prep:10min  ›  Cook:5hr  ›  Extra time:5hr10min  ›  Ready in:10hr20min 

    1. In a slow cooker, combine beef, water, stock, onion, passata, barley, salt and pepper.
    2. Cover and cook on Low for 5 hours.

    Hi, the recipe looks great and I would like to cook this for my husband (not me though as I don't eat meat) but this says cooks in 10 hrs, 20mins however the recipe and prep total only 5hrs 20mins . . . where's the extra 5hours?! Sorry if this is obvious, I'm new to this site and have only just bought a slow cooker (used it once so far!). Many thanks. - 20 Oct 2016
