Mozzarella Stuffed Puffs with Tomato Sauce

About this recipe: This dish is a little like an inside-out pizza. Scone dough balls are stuffed with mozzarella and dried oregano, then baked with a blanket of pizza sauce. Savoury and satisfying.

Serves: 10 

  • 1/2 (320g) packet scone mix, mixed with 75ml milk to make a scone dough, cut into 10 equal round scones
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 85g mozzarella cheese, cut into 1.75cm cubes
  • 2 tablespoons pizza topping sauce

  1. Preheat oven to 190 C / Gas 5.
  2. Make an indentation in the top of each uncooked scone. Fill indentations with oregano and a mozzarella cube. Pinch the dough around the mozzarella cubes.
  3. Place the ball pinched side down, on a medium, ungreased baking tray. Cover with pizza topping sauce.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
