Traditional toffee apples

    These toffee apples are not only quick and easy to make, they also taste fab! The use of toffees make this recipe a breeze. If you're feeling adventurous - top the toffee with nuts or drizzled chocolate. The perfect treat for Bonfire night.

    Ingredients
    Makes: 6 toffee apples

    • 6 Granny Smith apples
    • 400g individually wrapped dairy toffees, unwrapped
    • 2 tablespoons water
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • nuts or melted chocolate (optional)

    Method

    1. Insert lollipop sticks 3/4 of the way into the stem end of each apple. Place apples on a baking tray covered with lightly greased foil.
    2. Combine toffee and water in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring often, until toffee melts and is smooth. Stir in vanilla extract. Dip each apple into the molten toffee and gently run apples around insides of saucepan to scrape off some of the toffee. Scrape excess toffee from the apple bottoms using the side of the saucepan. Sprinkle with nuts or drizzle with melted chocolate if desired. Place on the foil and chill until ready to serve.
