    About this recipe: This chilli is a little different than the standard chilli. It has pumpkin added to it and is warmly spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and allspice. Enjoy with freshly cooked rice or corn bread.

    Serves: 8 

    • 900g minced beef
    • 1 large onion, diced
    • 1 green pepper, diced
    • 2 (410g) tins kidney beans, drained
    • 1.3 litres tomato juice
    • 2 (400g) tins chopped tomatoes with juice
    • 125g pumpkin puree
    • 1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon
    • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice or ground cloves
    • 1 tablespoon chilli powder
    • 4 tablespoons caster sugar

    1. In a large pot over medium heat, cook beef until brown; drain. Stir in onion and pepper and cook 5 minutes. Stir in beans, tomato juice, chopped tomatoes and pumpkin puree. Season with spices and sugar. Simmer 1 hour.
