Slow cooker BBQ beef sandwiches

    This sandwich has comfort food written all over it. Beef is cooked in a slow cooker with a homemade BBQ sauce, then served on toasted deli sub rolls. Enjoy with grated Cheddar, if desired.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 4 

    • 125g tomato ketchup
    • 125ml Italian dressing
    • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
    • 1 tablespoon black treacle
    • 900g beef sirloin steak, cubed
    • 1 tablespoon dried chopped onion
    • 4 deli sub rolls, split lengthways and toasted
    • 200g prepared coleslaw (optional)

    Method
    Prep:10min  ›  Cook:5hr  ›  Ready in:5hr10min 

    1. Mix the tomato ketchup, Italian dressing, soy sauce and treacle in a small bowl. Place the steak in slow cooker, sprinkle with onions and pour the ketchup mixture over the steak.
    2. Turn the slow cooker to High and cook for 1 hour. Reduce the heat to Low and continue cooking until the meat is tender, about 4 hours. Serve on deli sub rolls and top each with 1/4 of the coleslaw, if desired.

    I`ve not made this as yet but it does sound nice but what is the Italian dressing? Is it the stuff you see in bottles in the supermarkets near the salad dressings?  -  04 Jan 2014

    Great, tasty sandwich with lots of flavor. I recommend making the following adjustments to the recipe: season both sides of the steak with salt and pepper. Instead of using dried onion, I chopped a medium onion, minced four cloves of garlic and added 1/4 cup of molasses to 3 pounds of flat iron steak, allowing it to cook for six hours.
