Butterfly Cake

    2 hours 5 min

I bake my daughter a butterfly cake for her birthday every year. If you're short on time, you can even make it with a cake mix. The main focus of this recipe is definitely the (bright) decoration.

    1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
    2. Beat the butter with hand mixer until very creamy. Gradually stir in the sugar and vanilla and mix well. Beat in the eggs one by one, stirring well after each egg. Then stir in the milk.
    3. Mix flour, baking powder and cocoa, sieve and fold in with a dough hook. Finally, fold in the chocolate.
    4. Spoon mixture into the prepared springform tin and bake in the preheated oven for about 75-90 minutes. Use a skewer to test if the cake is baked in the middle.
    5. Allow the cake to cool for a short while, then remove it from the springform tin and allow it to cool completely.
    6. Cut the cake in half and place a small distance apart with the round sides facing each other. Cover with the chocolate cake covering and decorate with Smarties and other bright sweets. Lay a waffle or 2 sponge fingers in the middle as the body and place 2 liquorice strings as the feelers.
