Crispy Cauliflower (Karnibahar Kizartmasi)

About this recipe: A Turkish starter or meze, you won't believe how delicious cauliflower can be after trying this fabulous recipe. It is especially tasty when served with a simple garlic and yoghurt sauce or even shop bought tzatziki.


Serves: 6 

  • 1 medium cauliflower
  • salt to taste
  • juice of 1/2 a lemon
  • 2 eggs
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • fresh breadcrumbs
  • vegetable oil for frying

  1. Cut cauliflower into florets and wash thoroughly.
  2. Bring a pan of salted water with lemon juice to the boil and boil the cauliflower in it for 8-10 minutes, uncovered, until al dente. Drain and dry well on kitchen paper.
  3. Beat eggs with pepper and salt until fluffy. Dip cauliflower into the eggs, then roll in breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil and fry the cauliflower in it until it is browned on all sides. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen paper. Serve warm.
