About this recipe:This is a classic children's meal but I often make it for myself as a quick lunch with a crisp green salad. It is really easy, tastes great both hot and cold, and you're always sure to have all of the ingredients to hand. Frozen garden peas make a healthy and tasty addition.
500g short pasta (penne, fussili, etc.)
1 tablespoon butter
100g cooked ham, cubed
1 egg (optional)
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Boil the pasta in salted water according to the packet instructions; drain and set aside.
Five minutes before the pasta is finished, heat butter in a pan and sauté the ham. Add the drained pasta, beat an egg in the pan, and heat everything for a few minutes, stirring constantly. Season with salt and pepper just before serving.
