Easy pizza rolls

    Bread rolls topped like pizzas and baked in the oven. A quick snack, easy lunch or super-fast midweek supper - especially for children. You can vary the toppings according to your tastes. Some easy ideas: a spoonful of pasta sauce, black olives, sliced chorizo, crumbled feta, jalapenos... The possibilities are endless!

    Serves: 6 

    • 6 crusty bread rolls
    • butter for the bread
    • For the topping
    • 250g cooked ham, diced
    • 1 small onion, diced
    • 2 tomatoes, diced
    • 1 pickled gherkin, diced
    • 1 (200g) tin mushrooms, diced
    • 2 mild chillies, diced small
    • pizza seasoning to taste
    • 250g Gruyere or Emmental cheese, grated

    Prep:10min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Ready in:20min 

    1. Cut the rolls in half and brush both halves with butter.
    2. Preheat oven to 200 C / Gas 6. Top the rolls evenly with the topping ingredients and sprinkle with the cheese. Bake in preheated oven for 10-15 minutes.

    I've been making bread roll pizzas for years. The pasta sauce base is a good idea, I will try it next time! I usually spread tomato ketchup onto a roll without butter and add anything else to hand. My favourite method is to put garlic on the base with the ketchup, grated cheddar cheese, crushed chilli flakes and cooked ham. A good substitute to pizza when you have very little time and no dough ingredients.  -  25 Jul 2012
