Teriyaki sauce

    It's easy to make your own teriyaki sauce and have it to hand. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 6 

    • 160ml mirin
    • 240ml soy sauce
    • 1 1/2 tablespoons rice vinegar
    • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
    • 67g caster sugar
    • 7 garlic cloves, minced
    • 1 tablespoon minced root ginger
    • 1 pinch red pepper flakes
    • black pepper to taste

    Method

    1. Bring mirin to a boil in a saucepan over high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer for 10 minutes. Pour in soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and sugar.
    2. Season with garlic, ginger, pepper flakes, and black pepper; simmer an additional 5 minutes. Store in a tightly sealed container in the fridge.

    nice easy recipe, very tasty. I didn't have sesame oil so used olive oil and added some sesame seeds, which worked fine.  -  20 May 2016
