Tandoori Chicken Skewers

    These chicken skewers are always the belle of the barbecue. They are well-spiced, tender and truly delicious. Serve them as a starter, main course or side dish. They're also perfect with naan bread and raita.

    Makes: 6 - 8 skewers

    • 225g chicken, cut into thin long strips
    • 2 tablespoons Rajah tandoori masala spice mix
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    • 2 tablespoons plain natural yoghurt
    • 1 teaspoon finely chopped ginger root
    • 1 garlic clove, crushed
    • 1/2-1 teaspoon chilli powder (optional)
    • 1 tablespoon roughly chopped coriander leaves
    • 6-8 wooden skewers, soaked

    1. In a medium sized bowl, mix together the tandoori masala, lemon juice, yoghurt, ginger, garlic and chilli (if using). Marinate the chicken for 1-2 hours in the refrigerator or overnight.
    2. Preheat an outdoor barbecue for high heat and lightly oil the cooking grate.
    3. Skewer the chicken and grill them on the preheated barbecue for 5-7 minutes or until cooked through. Scatter with coriander leaves and serve with raita, if desired.

    Alternative cooking methods

    You can also cook these chicken skewers under the grill. Adjust the cooking time accordingly.

    Done the recipe exactly as per instructions, left to marinate for 24 hours and barbecued it, taste was amazing!! Couldn't beleive how tasty it was, thanks so very much for sharing such amazing recipe.  -  11 May 2014


    I have to admit first time I did this dish we didn't like it enough to try it again- it lacked flavour comparing to many other indian dish. However I was left with half jar of tandori masala mix so I decided to make it again - this time however I doubled the rest of spices which turn out this dish into absolutely treat- my family loves it.  -  08 Sep 2015
