Quick and Easy Spicy Fish

    This fish dish is spicy, delicious and low in fat. Fish is stuffed with chilli and chives, then rubbed with spices, before being microwaved to perfection.

    Serves: 2 

    • 1 (350g) freshwater fish, cleaned and patted dry
    • 10g pickled red chilli peppers, finely chopped
    • 10g Chinese chives, finely chopped
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/8 teaspoon monosodium glutamate (MSG)
    • 1 teaspoon chilli powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon cumin powder, divided
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • 1 spring onion, finely chopped

    1. Stuff the fish with the chilli peppers and chives.
    2. Rub the salt, MSG, chilli powder, 1/2 of the cumin and the oil all over the outside of the fish.
    3. Place the fish on a microwave-safe dish.
    4. Set the microwave oven to the medium-high power. Place the fish into the microwave and cook for 4 minutes.
    5. Take the dish out and sprinkle the with the remaining cumin. Microwave for 2 more minutes or until the fish is cooked through and the flesh flakes easily with a fork.
    6. Scatter the fish with spring onions before serving.


    Chinese chives are also known as garlic chives. These along with monosodium glutamate can be found in Chinese/Oriental speciality shops.
