Spicy Cabbage Stir Fry

    This is a great way to prepare cabbage. Cabbage is stir-fried until tender, then tossed in a hot and spicy sauce. Enjoy alongside freshly cooked rice.

    Serves: 2 

    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
    • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
    • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
    • 1 teaspoon chicken stock granules
    • 2 tablespoons oil
    • 5 dried red chillies
    • 5 Sichuan peppercorns
    • 1 teaspoon finely chopped spring onion
    • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
    • 1/2 whole cabbage, leaves torn into bite-sized pieces

    1. In a small bowl, make the sauce by mixing together the salt, sugar, soy sauce, rice vinegar and chicken stock granules.
    2. Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a wok over medium heat and stir-fry the dried chillies for 1 minute.
    3. Add the Sichuan peppercorns and fry until fragrant, about 30 seconds, then set aside.
    4. Stir-fry the spring onion and ginger until fragrant. Add the cabbage and stir-fry for 2 minutes or until tender, but still a little crunchy.
    5. Add the sauce and toss well. Garnish with fried chillies and peppercorns, then serve.


    Rice vinegar and Sichuan peppercorns can be purchased in Chinese/Oriental speciality shops.
