About this recipe: This dessert contains Sichuan fritillary bulb, which is a Chinese herb that can be used to relieve colds. An apple pear is steamed with Sichuan fritillary bulbs and rock sugar.


Makes: 1 - 2 servings

  • 1 large apple pear, peeled, cored and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 10 Sichuan fritillary bulbs, rinsed
  • 15g rock sugar

  1. Soak the Sichuan fritillary bulbs and soak in a heat-safe bowl with 2 tablespoons of water for a few hours.
  2. Place the apple pear, Sichuan fritillary bulbs and sugar into a heat-proof bowl.
  3. Steam over high heat for 5 minutes. Turn down the heat and steam for 3 hours. Remove, cool and serve.


Apple pears (also known as Asian pears) and rock sugar can be purchased in Chinese/Oriental speciality shops.
Sichuan fritillary bulbs can be purchased in Chinese medicine shops.
