This recipe is a simplified version of the classic French cake known as 'Millat Charentais' which typically contains Cognac. I learnt to make this delicious recipe when I was young.

Ingredients
Serves: 6
180g caster sugar
3 eggs
2 tablespoons Cognac brandy (or rum)
150g plain flour
500ml milk
Method Prep:5min › Cook:1hr › Ready in:1hr5min
Preheat oven to 150 C / Gas 2. Butter a pie dish about 5 cm deep. Sprinkle with flour.
In a large bowl, combine the sugar with the eggs. Add the rum, then the flour in one go. Whisk until smooth. Gradually stir in milk.
Pour the batter into the pie dish and bake until the cake is brown, or about 1 hour.
