Winter warmer potato pie

    The perfect dinner for a cold winter night as its very filling, cheap as chips and goes a long way. Cost approx £5.

    Serves: 8 

    • 1 - 1.5kg potatoes, peeled and chopped
    • 3 carrots, chopped
    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 1 can sweetcorn (optional)
    • 4 or 5 OXO® stock cubes
    • 2 cans stewed steak in gravy
    • 1kg fresh stewed steak (optional)

    1. In a large saucepan boil the potatoes, carrots and onion and sweetcorn together with a lot of water in the saucepan.
    2. Once the potatoes are cooked, drain a little of the water and add the OXO cubes.
    3. Add the tinned stewed steak and fresh stewing steak, if using. Leave to simmer for a couple of hours, checking on it every now and then and giving it a good stir. It should be nice and thick like a stew.
    4. If using the fresh stewed steak, cook until the steak basically falls apart.

    Serving suggestion

    Some hot baked rolls go perfectly with this meal or some pickled red cabbage or pickled onions.

    Use for leftovers

    Any left over is brilliant for the next day as lunch and tastes even nicer than the day before.


    The potato should thicken this dish. If you would like it thicker, make up some thick gravy and add that or add some cornflour.
