Simple tasty beef stew cooked in a slow cooker. I recommend the slow cooker for this as you can cook it for 4 or 5 hours on a hob and stewing steak would still be a bit chewy. Slow cook it for 8 hours and it is lovely and tender and just breaks up as soon as your fork hits it. The picture is leftover stew which has cooled and is ready for shortcrust pastry to go on to make pies.
Serve with boiled new potatoes or mashed potatoes and choice of vegetables.
If you have any left over, why not put some in foil dishes or any form of pie dish and add some puff pastry for a tasty meal for the next day or for the freezer?
thank you so much for this simple and delicious recipe! I bought my first slow cooker a couple of days ago and made my first ever slow cooker meal - so yours was the first one I tried because it looked easy and sounded delicious. It came out fab! all the family loved it. I just added a little cornflour before serving to thicken. Thanks so much! - 29 Dec 2011
