    About this recipe: This is a good, filling recipe for all the family. Macaroni is combined with white sauce, grated cheese and baked with a layer of crunchy breadcrumbs over top. Use your favourite cheese for this recipe, and make your own white sauce or use shop-bought.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 6 

    • 110g (4 oz) macaroni pasta
    • 600ml (1 pint) white sauce
    • 110g (4 oz) grated cheese
    • 125g brown breadcrumbs
    • knob butter
    • salt and pepper to taste

    Method
    Prep:20min  ›  Cook:40min  ›  Ready in:1hr 

    1. Break the macaroni into pieces about 4cm (1.5") long and put into rapidly boiling, salted water. Cook for about 20 minutes or until tender.
    2. Cover the bottom of a well buttered baking dish with white sauce, sprinkle liberally with cheese, seasoning to taste, and add a layer of macaroni.
    3. Repeat layer, and cover the last layer of macaroni thickly with the breadcrumbs and add a few small pieces of butter.
    4. Bake in oven at 220 C / Gas 7.

    Substitution

    For a gluten free version omit the breadcrumbs and use gluten free pasta.
