Steak in breadcrumbs with Nonna's secret sauce

    Fillet steak is coated in breadcrumbs, shallow fried in olive oil and served with a special sauce. Serve with mash and steamed green beans.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 4 

    • 4 fillet steaks
    • 1 egg
    • 1 mug fine breadcrumbs
    • olive oil
    • 1 pinch each salt, pepper and caster sugar
    • 1 chicken stock cube, crumbled

    Method

    1. Bash the steak depending on tenderness and quality. Beat egg and dip each steak into egg, then roll in breadcrumbs so it covers them.
    2. Fry the steaks in olive oil in a nonstick pan to your preference of cooking. Once cooked, take out of pan and set aside to rest.
    3. Heat sugar, salt, pepper and stock cube into the dry pan. Once sugar has caramelised, add some boiling water (about 300ml or 1/2 pint) then return the steak to the pan and cook for 1 minute longer.

    Substitution

    You can use veal steaks, too.
