About this recipe: Very tasty little cakes that are sure to be a hit with all, with a hint of cocoa and orange flavouring.


Makes: 24 cakes

  • For the cupcakes
  • 140g (5oz) butter
  • 225g (8oz) caster sugar
  • 225g (8oz) plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 100ml milk
  • 2 drops orange flavouring
  • For the icing
  • 170g (6oz) icing sugar
  • 85g (3oz) butter
  • 1/2 cocoa powder
  • 1 drop orange flavouring
  • 1 tablespoon milk, or as needed

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
  2. Put the 140g butter and caster sugar in a bowl and cream together well.
  3. Add in the remaining cupcake ingredients and mix well until mixture is light and smooth. Place 2 heaped teaspoons in paper cup cake holders.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for around 12 minutes until a skewer inserted near the centre comes out clean. Cool completely.
  5. For buttercream icing put icing sugar, the 85g butter, 1/2 teaspoon cocoa powder and flavouring in a bowl and add in milk and mix well. Mixture should be quite thick so as not to run off the cake.
