About this recipe: These biscotti-like biscuits are simple to make and taste fantastic. They are flavoured with almonds, orange zest, raisins, chocolate, aniseed and ginger. They are perfect during Christmastime.


Serves: 60 

  • 3-4 eggs
  • 250g caster sugar
  • 125g almonds or walnuts, coarsely chopped
  • 100g grated orange zest
  • 150g raisins
  • 3 tablespoons aniseed powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 50g chocolate, grated
  • 500g plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • butter for brushing
  • For the Egg Wash
  • 1-2 egg yolks, beaten with a little water

  1. Beat eggs with sugar until light and fluffy. Knead all the ingredients together to form a firm dough, adding spices last.
  2. Divide the dough into 4 and roll each into a long log, the length of the baking tray.
  3. Preheat oven to 150 C / Gas 2. Bake logs in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Brush with egg wash and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes at 180 C / Gas 4.
  4. Cut into diagonal slices and serve warm.

Aniseed powder

If unavailable at your local supermarket, you can find it in Chinese/Oriental speciality shops or online.
