    About this recipe: Chocolate and oat tray bake, delicious as a snack or after tea with custard or cream. Add chopped nuts in with the mix before baking if you want some added crunch.

    Ingredients
    Makes: 8 squares

    • 112g (4oz) margarine
    • 5 to 7 drops vanilla extract
    • 112g (4oz) granulated sugar
    • 80g (3oz-ish) porridge oats
    • 57g (2oz) cocoa powder
    • 112g (4oz) self-raising flour

    Method
    Prep:10min  ›  Cook:13min  ›  Ready in:23min 

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
    2. Melt the margarine in a pan with the vanilla extract, then add the sugar. Mix well.
    3. Add the porridge oats and cocoa powder. Stir in the flour, then put into a lightly greased 25x35cm tray.
    4. Bake in the preheated oven for about 13 minutes.

    Doubled the recipe to give a decent size traybake. Added an egg and some golden syrup for extra moisture and flavour. Very nice. - 04 Mar 2015
