    About this recipe: A great alternative to the classic meat burgers. These tuna burgers are flavoured with Oriental seasonings. Serve in a burger bun or as part of a main course.

    Ingredients
    Makes: 6 burgers

    • 2 (185g) tins tuna, drained and flaked
    • 1 egg, beaten
    • 80g dry breadcrumbs
    • 3 spring onions, finely chopped
    • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
    • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
    • 1 tablespoon teriyaki sauce
    • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
    • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
    • 1 teaspoon black pepper
    • 70g dry polenta (or cornmeal)
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

    Method
    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Ready in:25min 

    1. In a large bowl, mix tuna, egg, breadcrumbs, spring onions and garlic together. Stir in soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, ketchup, sesame oil and pepper.
    2. Form into 6 burgers, approximately 2.5cm thick. Lightly sprinkle both sides with polenta.
    3. Heat oil in a medium frying pan over medium heat. Fry each burger for about 5 minutes on each side, until golden brown.

    Interesting combination of flavors- like nothing I had ever had before. Needed something else though... next time perhaps some fresh grated ginger, crushed red pepper flakes, more teriyaki sauce. Nice texture though.  -  29 Aug 2002  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)

    This is by far the best tuna patties recipe I've ever tried. It's so easy to prepare, and it has great flavor. I substituted crushed seasoned croutons for the bread crumbs, and it worked fine. I also realized after the fact that I'd forgotten to sprinkle the corn meal on the patties. They were delicious anyway. It just goes to show that you can't "mess up" this recipe.
