    Ingredients
    Serves: 2

    • 175g soft goat cheese
    • 1 tablespoon lemon pepper
    • salt to taste
    • 2 (175g) steaks halibut
    • 30g butter
    • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
    • 15g butter
    • 50g cream cheese, whipped
    • 1 tablespoon milk
    • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives

    Method

    1. Preheat grill and set the oven rack at about 15cm from the heat source.
    2. In a small bowl, stir together the goat cheese, lemon pepper and salt. Pat this evenly over the tops of the halibut steaks. Place the steaks on a baking tray. Dot each fillet with 15g butter.
    3. Grill for 8 to 10 minutes per 2.5cm of thickness of the steaks. They are done when the cheese is browned and the fish can be flaked with a fork.
    4. While the fish is cooking, combine the remaining butter, lemon juice, cream cheese, milk and chives in a small saucepan. Cook while stirring over low heat until everything is melted and smooth. Spoon sauce onto dinner plates and place the halibut steaks on top to serve.

Substituted orange roughy for the halibut because that's what I had, but the crust and sauce both were excellent! A little heavy on the lemon pepper in the crust for my liking, but my beau loved it as is.  -  18 Nov 2007  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)

I was hesitant that the halibut might be a little bland because there was no marinade. But, I was wrong. Because of some of the other reviewers, I omitted the lemon pepper and mixed the goat cheese with lemon juice and kosher salt and cracked black pepper. I added just a bit of balsamic vinaigrette in the bottom of the pan for a little extra flavor and it was awesome. Although, I think it would have been fabulous without it as well. Some of the other reviewers didn't make the cream cheese sauce, but, it really is a must. Thanks for this recipe! Coming from Alaska, where Halibut if abundant, we are always looking for great new Halibut recipes and this is a keeper!  -  10 Sep 2008  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)

Bleck! I love goat cheese, cream cheese, lemon pepper, etc... This recipe was not good My husband and I started laughing as we realized we were both trying to choke down the fish with a straight face. If you insist on cooking this, reduce lemon pepper! Way too much.  -  02 May 2008  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)
