Garlic prawns on the BBQ

    A simple, yet delectable dish that's quick and easy to make. Prawns are cooked on the barbecue with olive oil, garlic, oregano and butter. Serve as a starter or main course.

    Serves: 4 

    • 10 large prawns, heads off and unpeeled
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
    • 60g butter
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

    1. With a sharp knife, cut prawn in half so that the meat is exposed in the shell.
    2. In a small saucepan, heat olive oil and lightly fry the garlic until just softened. Add butter and oregano. Heat until butter has melted.
    3. Preheat barbecue for medium heat and lightly oil the cooking grate.
    4. Lay prawns out on a tray and brush generously with the butter mixture. Grill prawns until lightly golden.

    This was great. although i did it a bit different. i used about a half lb of the next size down shrimp without tails. i didnt bother to slice them. i mixed up the ingredients, let them sit in it for a bit then broiled them in the oven. was delicious mixed in with my fettucinni alfredo. will make again. thanx.  -  11 Aug 2002  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)


    This was really good, but I did do a few things differently. I added just a bit of chicken stock and some lemon juice. It made the butter sauce a bit thicker and stick to the shrimp better.
