Cheesy mince pasta bake

    This pasta bake recipe is an easy one dish meal that will please the entire family. Mince is combined with pasta shells, green pepper, pepperoni, tomato sauce and herbs. It all gets topped with mozzarella cheese and then baked till bubbly. You can adjust the seasonings to taste and you could easily use bacon or chorizo instead of the pepperoni.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 12 

    • 500g pasta shells
    • 450g minced beef
    • 1 small onion, chopped
    • 1/2 green pepper, chopped
    • 75g sliced pepperoni
    • 500g passata
    • 450ml tomato juice
    • 3/4 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 1/2 teaspoon celery salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
    • 1/8 teaspoon crushed red chillies
    • 250g grated mozzarella cheese

    1. Preheat an oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Lightly grease a 20x30cm baking dish.
    2. Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring to the boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling, stir in the pasta, and return to the boil. Cook the pasta uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the pasta has cooked through, but is still firm to the bite, about 13 minutes. Drain well and set aside.
    3. Heat a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook and stir mince, onion and green pepper until browned. Drain off excess fat. Stir in pepperoni, passata, tomato juice, oregano, celery salt, onion powder, garlic salt, basil, red chillies and cooked pasta. Pour into the prepared baking dish and cover with aluminium foil.
    4. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Return to the oven and bake until the cheese melts, about 5 minutes.

    Made this tonight and EVERYONE went back for seconds. I also used 2 cloves of fresh garlic. I used cyan pepper instead of red pepper flakes and regular salt because I didn't have an celery salt on hand. Served with green beans.     Wow this was really good. I made the recipe as written with the tomato sauce and juice and it was fantastic.
