1/4 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

120g chopped walnuts

Melt butter. Add sugar and mix well. Cool.
Add eggs and vanilla, blend well. Add the remaining ingredients except the chocolate chips.
Put into a greased 20x30cm tin. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and bake at 180 C / Gas 4 for 20 to 25 minutes. Cool and cut into squares.
