About this recipe: An addictive treat that coffee lovers will adore. A delicious biscuit base is covered in your favourite chocolate bars, and sprinkled with ground coffee beans. Use a high-quality bean for best results. You can vary the flavour depending on what type of chocolate bar you use.


Serves: 24 

  • 225g butter, softened
  • 220g light brown soft sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 200g plain flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 8 chocolate bars, such as Snickers or Mars Bars
  • 180g chopped walnuts
  • 8 tablespoons whole coffee beans, ground

  1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease a 20x30cm baking tin.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, dark brown soft sugar, egg yolk and vanilla until smooth. Combine the flour and salt; stir into the creamed mixture. Spread evenly into the prepared tin.
  3. Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Remove from the oven and place chocolate bars over the top in a single layer. Let stand until chocolate is soft enough to spread. Spread the chocolate out smooth and sprinkle with walnuts and ground coffee. Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting into squares.
