About this recipe: These delicious fritters are a perfect addition to your Hanukkah table. Serve them hot with jam on the side. They're also divine if drizzled with honey and sprinkled with additional nutmeg, or cinnamon.


Serves: 10 

  • 225g drained cottage cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 60ml single cream
  • 125g plain flour
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 475ml vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons icing sugar

  1. In a medium bowl, beat the cottage cheese and egg together. Stir in the cream, flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and nutmeg. Mix until just combined.
  2. Fill a deep saucepan to the 5cm mark with oil. Heat to 190 C / Gas 5. Drop batter by rounded tablespoons into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown on all sides about 3 to 4 minutes. Drain on kitchen paper and sprinkle with icing sugar. Serve hot!
