    • 2 tablespoons treacle
    • 2 tablespoons sugar
    • 110g plain chocolate

    • 80g glace cherries

    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:5min  ›  Extra time:8hr chilling  ›  Ready in:8hr20min

    1. Put the butter or margarine, treacle, sugar and chocolate into a 1.5 litre heatproof glass bowl and microwave on high for two minutes or until melted. Stir well. Add the broken biscuits, raisins, almonds and cherries. Mix well to coat them with the chocolate mixture.
    2. Place a 18cm plain flan ring on a flat serving plate. Spoon in the mixture. Press down evenly. Chill in refrigerator for about 8 hours or overnight. Remove flan ring and serve.

You can also use an 18cm loose-bottomed tin instead of a flan ring.

Made this for the first time last week - just going to make another as it was so gorgeous. we ate it for breakfast/mid-morning/pudding and supper. We don't like raisins too much so just put in more cherries. I used golden syrup instead of treacle, and melted in a large saucepan. The most difficult bit of this recipe was having to leave it overnight before sampling. Texture/flavour great. I am going to toast the almonds a little in today's creation. I also found that I needed a 23cm loose bottom flan tin to make it in but I think I was a bit heavy handed with the biscuits (it seemed a shame to leave a couple in the packet so lobbed them all in!) The end result belies the simplicity of this recipe.  -  09 Mar 2015
