    About this recipe: This simple chocolate frosting turns any cake into something deliciously special. It is easy to make and easy to work with. You can use butter instead of margarine, if desired.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 12 

    • 50g margarine, melted
    • 45g unsweetened cocoa
    • 75ml milk
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 450g icing sugar

    Method

    1. In a large bowl, beat margarine and cocoa together until combined. Add milk and vanilla; beat until smooth. Gradually beat in icing sugar until desired consistency is achieved. You may use less than stated. Adjust with more milk or icing sugar if necessary.

    this is great tasting icing but I do find it fairly difficult to mix and pipe but it is worth the effort for the taste. If you whip it for a while it does make it softer. Don't be tempted to add anymore liquid or it won't keep it's shape when piped. - 01 Dec 2011

    I used this for a topping on top of a cake. I used 100g less icing sugar as I wanted to make something easy to spread. Very nice and tasty - 20 Jun 2012

    I have had a huge problem with frosting... it falls apart, it melts, it clumps etc... But this recipe is amazing! Perfect consistency, flavor and look. I got impatient and applied it to a cake that was still hot and it still had no problem!! - 18 Mar 2013
