About this recipe: A fantastic chilli con carne that will knock your socks off. It's hearty, well flavoured and incredibly spicy. Serve with rice, tortilla chips, corn bread or jacket potatoes.


Serves: 6 

  • 450g lean minced beef
  • 160g chopped onion
  • 1/2 red pepper, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons chilli powder
  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped garlic
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 (400g) tin chopped tomatoes
  • 1 (410g) tin kidney beans, drained
  • 250g tomato based pasta sauce
  • 250g salsa
  • 4 tablespoons taco sauce

  1. In a large saucepan, cook minced beef, onion and red pepper until beef is browned. Drain off excess fat.
  2. Stir in the chilli powder, garlic, bay leaf, chopped tomatoes, pasta sauce, salsa and taco sauce. Lower heat and simmer for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. Stir in beans just before serving to heat through.

Taco sauce

Is a spicy tomato sauce to be served with tacos. It can be found in Mexican speciality shops or online.
