Port Baked Ham

    Slices of ham are marinated overnight in port, then rolled and baked in a creamy port sauce. Enjoy with potatoes, rice or pasta.

    Makes: 4 - 6 servings

    • 12 (5mm thick) slices ham
    • 250ml port wine
    • 175ml double cream
    • 1 teaspoon curry powder
    • 4 tablespoons tomato puree
    • 15g butter

    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:45min  ›  Extra time:8hr marinating  ›  Ready in:9hr 

    1. Place the ham slices in a shallow baking dish. Pour over port. Marinate overnight in the refrigerator.
    2. Preheat the oven to 220 C / Gas 7.
    3. Pour off the port from the ham into a medium bowl. Roll up each slice of ham lengthways and place side by side in the baking dish. Mix the cream, curry powder and tomato puree into the port. Pour over the ham, making sure to get all of the slices covered. Dot the top with small pieces of butter.
    4. Bake uncovered for 45 minutes in the preheated oven or until the ham begins to brown on top.

    I'd never cooked with port before but this was surprisingly good! My boyfriend LOVED it.  -  14 Jul 2015


    I liked this recipe. I used red wine & added some sugar instead of the Port & ketchup instead of tomato puree. I will slice the ham thinner next time so it will be easier to roll & I think I will roll it around an asparagus spear & onions.
