    About this recipe: Welcome back to the 1970's, where both disco and these orange, cream cheese and chocolate cookies (with orange icing, no less!) will make you feel right at home. The flavour combination of orange and chocolate may be a bit retro, but is still a yummy classic, so get out the strobe light and bake these chocolaty citrus treats!

    Serves: 30 

    • Cookies
    • 225g butter, softened
    • 85g cream cheese, softened
    • 200g caster sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 tablespoon orange zest
    • 250g plain flour
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 170g plain chocolate chips
    • Icing
    • 250g icing sugar
    • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
    • 2 1/2 tablespoons orange juice
    • 1/4 teaspoon orange zest
    • 2 drops orange food colouring
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt

      To make cookies:

    1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease baking trays.
    2. In a large bowl cream butter, cream cheese and sugar. Gradually add eggs, vanilla and orange zest. Mix well. Sift together flour and salt and stir into butter mixture. Stir in chocolate chips last.
    3. To make orange icing:

    4. In a small bowl stir together icing sugar, 4 tablespoons of butter, orange juice, 1/4 teaspoon of orange zest, salt and food colouring and mix all until smooth.
    5. Drop cookie mixture by teaspoons onto prepared baking tray. Bake in preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until light brown. While the cookies are still warm, decorate them with the orange icing.
