A simpler buttercream recipe cannot be found - margarine, butter, sugar and milk, boiled then whipped together into a light, fluffy icing.
This doesn't work. The hot milk melts the butter & it's all turns into a sloppy mess. Not sure where I went wrong here, but won't be trying it again. - 08 May 2014

This offers an excellent alternative to icing sugar, in some ways even better than normal icing as it is lighter as less sweet. I would agree about using slightly less milk than the recipe suggests. - 18 Jul 2015
