Minced beef goulash

    A simple, yet incredibly hearty Hungarian-inspired meal. Sauteed minced beef is simmered with macaroni, tomatoes, paprika, chilli and garlic. Enjoy with fresh bread.

    Serves: 4 

    • 450g lean minced beef
    • 160g macaroni
    • 1kg whole plum peeled tomatoes
    • 2 teaspoons paprika
    • 1 tablespoon chilli powder
    • 80g chopped onion
    • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
    • 170g tomato puree (optional)

    1. In large saucepan brown beef, drain off any fat.
    2. Add tomatoes, onions, garlic, paprika, chilli powder, macaroni and tomato puree, if desired. Add water, a tablespoon at a time, if mixture seems too dry. Simmer until macaroni is tender.

    if too hot for you with the chilli powder just add a few drops of lemon juice to counteract the spice.  -  20 Feb 2012


    I only added a 1/4 tsp of chilli powder,especially as my 5 year old daughter was going to eat it.I also cooked the macaroni first before adding it into the mince mixture.  -  03 Aug 2011


    Altered ingredient amounts. Dont put a tblsp of chilli powder in this unless you want to burn the roof of your mouth off  -  16 Mar 2011
