    About this recipe: The classic cookie made in your own kitchen. These delicious cookies are warmly spiced and packed full of oats and raisins. Enjoy with a big mug of tea or coffee.

    Makes: 96 cookies

    • 415g margarine
    • 300g dark brown soft sugar
    • 100g caster sugar
    • 4 eggs
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 500g plain flour
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons bicarbonate of soda
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
    • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
    • 485g porridge oats
    • 250ml milk
    • 290g raisins

    1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease baking trays.
    2. In a large bowl, cream together the margarine, dark brown soft sugar and caster sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, bicarbonate of soda, salt, cinnamon, allspice and cloves; stir into the sugar mixture until well blended. Mix in the oats alternately with the milk. Finally, stir in the raisins. Drop heaped spoons of the batter onto the prepared trays about 7.5cm apart.
    3. Bake in preheated oven for 10 to 11 minutes or until edges are golden and tops are dry. Cool on baking trays for 1 minute before removing to cool on wire racks.
