Beef 'n' Mushroom Pasta Bake

About this recipe: This pasta dish will warm the cockles of your heart. Pasta is baked with beef and mushrooms in a well-flavoured tomato sauce and topped with Cheddar cheese.


Serves: 4 

  • 225g pasta
  • 450g lean minced beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 (300g) tin chopped mushrooms
  • 1 pinch garlic salt
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons caster sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 850g passata
  • 225g mature Cheddar cheese, grated

  1. Cook pasta in a large pot of boiling salted water until al dente. Drain.
  2. Meanwhile, in a large frying pan, cook minced beef, onion and mushrooms. Drain off excess fat. Mix in garlic salt, ground black pepper, sugar, Worcestershire sauce and passata. Simmer for 30 minutes.
  3. In a greased 2 litre baking dish, layer half of the pasta, then half of the sauce mixture, followed by half of the grated cheese. Repeat.
  4. Bake in a preheated 190 C / Gas 5 oven for 20 to 30 minutes.
